Many people think that Mardi Gras began in New Orleans, but it really originated in Mobile, Alabama in the 1700's and this is where Susan Rehm, the owner of Clearly Susan grew up, therefore she hand paints with true originality. In Days gone by people went to Mardi Gras Balls during the whole week of Fat Tuesday. They stayed out to the wee hours of the morning, came home and got ready for work. The city wised up and declared a Mardi Gras Holiday.
